ABOUT

Darnell Ishmel is a multifaceted artist-activist who is making a significant impact in the world. His unique combination of exceptional vocal talent, dynamic stage presence, and innovative programming has earned him high praise, including recognition by The New York Times for his “rich baritone” voice, “precise diction,” and “superb comic timing,” in his “show-stealing” opera debut in New York.

However, Darnell’s dedication extends beyond the arts. As a mixed-services professional, he is committed to creating meaningful change by providing institutionalization services and capacity building to grassroots community groups and nonprofit organizations. He is also passionate about producing digital media and performance art for civic and cultural organizations, with a focus on empowering marginalized and underrepresented communities.

In 2017, Darnell launched the Extended Outreach Ministry Initiatives and Services, which offers mentorship and support to traditionally marginalized and disconnected youth and young adults. His work in this area reflects his deep involvement in social issues, including youth workforce development, urban revitalization, ex-offender success, and LGBTQIA advocacy.

Darnell’s dedication to leveraging technology to improve the lives of those in what he calls “subterranean communities” is both innovative and inspiring. Serving as a modern-day on-the-ground missionary, he has worked tirelessly to provide food, school supplies, empowerment, and hope to people in countries such as Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Uganda, and Pakistan.

Darnell holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan, as well as a doctoral degree with distinction from the Pacific School of Religion. He recently made his podcast hosting debut with Parcast of Spotify and is currently writing a series of character education and cultural immersion books as part of an anti-recidivism outreach effort to incarcerated men and under-schooled African children.

With his hard work, creativity, and unwavering commitment to change-making for an array of social justice and humanitarian causes,  Darnell Ishmel is a true force for good in the world.
